Today sick XD
nothing to do ,
so come here to post barhs
What i am gonna talk today is about SOLAR ENERGY !!
What is solar energy ?
Solar power is energy from the sun and without its presence all life on earth would end.
Solar energy has been looked upon as a serious source of energy for many years because of the vast amounts of energy that are made freely available, if harnessed by modern technology.
A simple example of the power of the sun can be seen by using a magnifying glass to focus the suns rays on a piece of paper.
Before long the paper ignites into flames.
This is one way of using the suns energy, but flames are dangerous and difficult to control.
A much safer and practical way of harnessing the suns energy is to use the suns power to heat up water.
A magnifying glass can be used to heat up a small amount of water.
A short piece of copper tube is sealed at one end and filled with water.
A magnifying glass is then used to warm up the pipe.
Using more than one magnifying glass will increase the temperature more rapidly.
After a relatively short time the temperature of the water increases.
Continuing to heat the water will cause water vapour to appear at the top of the tube.
In theory, with enough patience, several magnifying glasses and very strong sun light enough heat should be generated to boil the water, producing steam.
This is one way of harnessing solar power.

these are the pictures whoch shows the ones i am talking about :)

The principle of heating water to boiling point was used by the French in 1888.
They developed a solar powered printing press.
It used the energy of the sun to boil water, producing steam.
The steam was used to drive a steam engine which provided the power to drive the mechanical printing press.
The machine was unreliable and very expensive to manufacture.

Modern solar panels are a combination of magnifying glasses and fluid filled pipes.
The solar panel seen opposite has a glass front which is specially made to focus the power of the sun on pipes behind it.
The pipes carry a special fluid that heats up rapidly.
They are painted black to absorb the heat from the sun.
The silver reflective surface behind the pipes reflects sun light back, further heating the pipes and the fluid they contain.
The reflective surface also protects anything behind the solar panel (such as a roof).
The heat produced in the pipes is then used to heat a tank of water. This saves using electricity or gas to heat up the water tank.

END of my lesson of SOLAR ENERGY !!
goodbyes !!

Hey , hey ...
really damn long time never post ler.
haixx,
come to post more now since deadline is coming,
What am i talking today ?
Let's find out !!
TOday i am gonna talk about ELectronis components :D

There are a large number of symbols which represent an equally large range of electronic components.
It is important that we can recognise the more common components and understand what they actually do.
A number of these components are drawn below and it is interesting to note that often there is more than one symbol representing the same type of component.
(Check all your information sheets in the electronics section for more symbols).

now i wanna talk about other electric components XD

What is a mechanism ?

Mechanisms are devices that have been designed to make jobs easier.

They all have certain things in common:

They involve some kind of motion.
They involve some kind of force.
They must have some kind of input to make them work.
They produce some kind of output.
If we connect mechanisms together we can build mechanical systems called machines.

Example is this mechanical dog :)

lalala , this is it !!

this is actually a better view as just now tat one is negative der :)

Tenon saw:
Cutting wood is best done with a tennon saw. This has a fine blade which cuts both hard and soft woods very cleanly. It should be used in conjunction with a wooden mitre. This helps to hold the wood firmly and cut accurate straight or angled lines. The tennon saw should handle most small scale jobs and is essential. Wood Saw:A small wood saw with a 12 inch blade has rough teeth but is capable of cutting to any depth and is much easier to use on larger pieces of wood. This again is an essential item. Fret Saw:This saw has a very fine, thin blade and is kept under tension so that it can’t bend. The saw frame has a large depth enabling you to work on larger pieces of wood. The fret saw in mainly used for cutting out intricate shapes and patterns. The blade is thin so is capable of turning very sharply which gives it such flexibility. It is great for cutting out shapes such as animals etc. in ply wood. A fret saw can be used on both wood and metal (using special blades) and is also essential.
POWER SAWS:
Power tools are great labour saving devises and can considerably lesson the time it takes to make an Automata. They do however command a great deal of respect and common sense when being used. Power saws are possibly the most dangerous tools to work with as one careless mistake can be very harmful. I don’t wont to put you off using them but to make you aware of the potential risks. (Treat with respect they are safe). When working with power tools always wear safety goggles and keep ties, jewellery and any loose clothing or articles away from moving parts. BAND SAWS:The band saw is a very versatile power tool. You can cut wood in a straight line with use of a mitre and there are attachments to enable you to cut circles and even turn it into a scroll saw. When used with a narrow blade you can cut curved shapes and with care and practice quite intricate shapes can be cut out of wood, plastic and even thin metal. It is not practical for using on small work as you do not want to get your fingers too near the blade.Band saws come in all shapes and sizes and are often referred to as two or three wheel types. This refers to the the actual wheels the blade rotates a round. Many come with variable speeds which is useful when cutting materials such as perspex that need to be worked at a slower blade speed to stop it melting and rejoining. The band saw is a very useful tool to have and small relatively inexpensive ones are available from many tool suppliers. For the serious automata maker they are useful but not essential. Children should never use one. If you don’t like the idea of working with a band saw then stick to hand saws.
SCROLL SAW :
The scroll saw has a very fine blade that is powered up and down at about 1400 rpm. It is the power version of the fret saw and as such can cut very intricate shapes and to quite a small size.As with any power tool it is not advisable to get your fingers too close to the moving parts. The scroll saw is quite forgiving (unlike a band saw) but should still be used with respect. When operating a scroll saw your fingers are often very close to the blade and it is important not to push them into the front of the part which has the cutting edge. An accident with a scroll saw is unlikely to cause a very serious injury. It is this comparative safety that makes them popular in schools and suitable for older children to use if closely supervised. The scroll saw can be fitted with a range of blades and can cut wood and metal up to two inches thick. They are extremely versatile and great labour saving devises. (A real must for the serious automata maker).

I am talking about colours today !!

What are colours ?

Colours is one of the first things people consider and notive about a product ... And tell uii what , designers always use a fixed group of colour ...

Harmonising colours are closer together on the colour wheel

Lets step in further to Aesthetics !!

What are aesthetics ?

Aesthetics is about the appearance of a product. It is also about the 'feel' of a product . What is the 'feel' i meant ? The 'feel' i mentioned is the kind of feel that will affect your emotions and senses !!

Aesthetis appeal is not the same for everyone . Different groups of people have different likes and needs which can be influenced by factors including age, gender and cultural background . It is also useful to know the basic elements of aesthetics ... It includes :
- Lines( that define the product)
Straight , curved and organic
- Shapes
Geometric and organic
- Forms
Geometric and organic
- Colours
Harmonising and contrasting
- Textures
Smooth, rough and bumpy
- Proportions
Symmetric and asymmetric

Further knowledge to LINES !!

Lines are basic elements of design. They indicate position, direction and sometimes other information ... Different types of lines will give you different feelings about a design ...

- Vertical lines(Tall building)
Demands attention ...

- Wide and jagged lines
Boldness and strength ...

- Curved lines
Represent smoothness and gentleness ...

- Slanted lines(Racing Cars)
Movement ...

- Short and crisp lines
Youthfulness and fun ...

- Lightning bolts or electrical signals
Potray action and energy ...

- Wavy lines
Convey a flowing movement ...

- Horizontal lines(Park Bench)
Passive and motionless ...

- Delicate and elegant lines
Uniterupted flow ...

Further knowledge to SHAPE !!

What is a shape ?

A shape is actually formed when a line encloses in area ... It is normally 2D ...
There are diffrerent kinds of shapes :
Geometric shape : Geometric shapes have stright lines or regular curves. They are often symmetrical. A rectangle, a circle, a square and a triangle are all examples or geometric shapes ...

Organic Shapes

Organic shapes are shapes we see in nature. they have free flowing lines ans are often non-symmetrical ...

Combining Shapes

Combining shapes are actually simple shapes that are combined or modified to form a more complex shape ... this is actually a good way to explore ideas for new shape :)

Forms

A form is actually something that has a thickness or depth ... it ish 3D which means that they have a length , breadth and depth :)

Geometric forms
Like Geometric shapes , geometrics forms are regular and mostly aymmetrical. A sphere, A rectangular block, A cone and a cylinder are examples of it :)

Organics forms
Organic forms is very somple to undersatnd : it's the forms we see in nature ... they have normally irregular, curved and flowing outlines ...

Combining Forms
Simple forms can be combined or modified to form a complex form is call combining forms ... just like this playground !!

Lets learn about some labels !!

Household electrical, electronic and gas products (e.g., Washing machine, television set and gas cooker) that carry the SAFETY mark have met the safety requirements set by SPRING Singapore, the safety authority. These products are therefore safe for use by consumers ...

Weighing and measuring instryments with this label have been verified by the Weights and Measures Office of SPRING Singapore and are fit for use, However, this label is not a guarantee that the instrument will remain accurate after the verification has been carried out ...

Food products with the Healthier Choice Symbol are generally lower in fat and sodium, and some are also higher in dietary fibre and calcium as compared to similar products of the same category. This symbol by the Health Promotion Board helps comsumers make informed food choices ...

Lets recap what had we learnt last year !!

What is design actually ?

Design is actually about creating a product that does its job well ...
It is about creating a product that has a distinctive look or feel ...
It is about creating a product that are comfortable and safe to use ...
It is about being innovative ...
It is about Choosing suitable materials to make the product ...
It is about protecting and preserving the environment ...

What are functions ?

Functions are actually the activities a product should perform ...

What are aesthetics ?
Aesthetics is the overall look or appearance of a product ...
e.g.Different designers have different ideas so that the products they create that does not look the same at all ... One of the designs that will look different is Watches ...

How do we describe products ?

Describing of the products are classified under Aesthetics ...
We may use words like :
-Modern
-Old-Fashioned
-Masculine
-Plain
-Streamlined
-Boxy
-Sophiscated
-Elegant
-Angular
-Curvy
-Bulky
-Slender

What are Ergonomics ?

Ergonomics are actually the process of designing for comfort and safety usage ...
Some points we can take note for ergonomics ...
-Holding the product
-Carrying the product
-Working with the product
-Wearing the product
-Sitting on the product

Some guidelines to help you in designing for safe use ...
-Do not use toxic paints
-Avoid sharp points on your products
-Avoid having small or loose parts on your products for children as they may pose potential choking hazards ...

When you want your design to be ergonomic.Consider :
-Safety
-How the user would use the product
-proportion
-Size
-TExture

In Designing some products ... you may also like o consider the adjustable parts and layout of information ...

What are innovation ?

Innovation is about looking for clever ways to slove design problems ...
It may also use existing materials in a new way or improving on the function of an existing product ...
Advances in technology may result in products that are smaller and perform more functions that those already in use ... e.g. Computer files , Stroage devices and Mobile phones ...
When you look at product in the past , you will see how designs have changed over time in terms of the materials use and ways things are made to work ...

What are materials ?

The products around us are made from different materials ... it can be group as follow :
-Wood
-Metals
-Plastics
-Ceramic
-Glass
Minerals

Designers must also be aware of the properties of different materials so that they are able to choose suitable materials for their designs ...
Designers must also think about the materials in terms of their appearance when designing for different people ...
E.g. A watch with pictures on it may give an informal look on it ...While a watch with stainless steel strap may give a formal look ... brightly coloured plastics make a product look attractive :)

What is mean by the subject ENVIRONMENT ?

Environment means products that are well designed and it's friendly to the environment ...

Here are some guidelines for designers to adopt in order to design environment friendly products :
-Do not waste materials
-Use materials that have been or can be recycled
-Use renewable materials
-Use biodegradable materials
-Design product to be energy efficent
-design products to use renewable energy
-Use less harmful chemicals in the product itself or in the manufacturing process to make the product ...

Summary of what we had learnt

- Design is about creating a product that functions well...
- The functions of a product are the actions or activities it should perform...
